  • Two suction cups
  • Two Towel Rack rods, one main and one extender inside the main.
  • Two connectors
  • One Instruction manual.

Follow these steps to install IKEA tisken towel rod for a long-lasting hold.

  1. Clean and prepare the surface

First and foremost, the most important step when installing any suction-based device like TISKEN is to clean the surface thoroughly. Use a kitchen cleaning liquid such as Mr. Muscle to completely remove grease and dirt. After that, rinse the area with plain water to eliminate any chemical residue left by the cleaner. Finally, pat the surface dry using a clean cloth and make sure it is completely dry before installation.

  2. Attach the provided Suction cups to the connector

The IKEA TISKEN package contains two suction cups and two connectors. Start by removing the plastic cover from one suction cup and take it out. Insert the connector into the groove of the suction cup. Hold the connector at a 45, degree angle, then slowly push it upward while straightening it. Continue pushing until you hear a click, this clicking sound confirms that the connector is securely locked in place. Repeat the same steps for the second connector and suction cup.

  3. Remove the extension rod from the main towel rail and lock it with the clip provided.

Inside the main rod of the IKEA TISKEN towel rail, there is an extension rod. Carefully pull the extension rod out from the main rod. You will also notice a button-based lock clip on the other side of the main rod. Press the button on the lock clip and remove it from the main rod. Now, flip the extension rod and reinsert it in the opposite direction. Take the removed lock clip and insert it back from the opposite direction as well. This step locks the extension rod securely inside the main rod, preventing it from coming off. Finally, use the button on the extension rod to slide it through the holes in the main rod and adjust the towel rail to the required length.

  4. Attach the assembled towel rack to the IKEA tisken suction cups

Now that the towel rail and extension rod are properly assembled and set to the correct length, attach the suction cups with the connectors already fitted to them.

  5. Install the IKEA TIKEN on the wall

Now place the towel rack against the wall, making sure it is properly aligned in a straight line and that both suction cups are at the same height. Using the heel of your hand (the inner base of your palm), press firmly on the top of each suction cup against the wall at the same time. You should hear the sound of air escaping from the suction cups, this indicates that the IKEA TISKEN towel rack has been installed correctly. After installation, wait for at least 6 hours before hanging towels or using the rack, so the suction can fully set

Why my TISKEN towel holder is coming off the the wall

These are some common reason why your TISKEN towel rack installation may fail.

  • Surface not suitable: Works only on smooth surfaces like tiles.
  • Surface not cleaned and dried: Presence of oil, dirt and water drops during installation.
  • Load applied too early: Wait for some hours after installation.
  • Too much moisture: Although the IKEA TISKEN towel holder is suitable for bathrooms, placing it too close to the shower area can cause continuous moisture buildup. Over time, this weakens the vacuum seal and may cause the suction cups to come off the wall.

How to remove IKEA TISKEN towel rack from the wall

Planning to shift your home and wondering whether you can reuse your IKEA TISKEN towel rack? Yes, you can remove and reuse it. Just follow the proper method recommended by IKEA. Simply insert a credit card or ID card between the wall and the top edge of the suction cup, then gently push it downward. As the card slides in, air enters the suction cup, breaking the vacuum seal. Once the suction is released, you can easily pull the towel rack off the wall without damage.
